Aldabra and the Vallee de Mai are two of the most spectacular and sought-after destinations for scientific researchers as well as avid naturalists the world over.  Both the atoll and the palm forest hold a special fascination for almost everyone who learns of their extraordinary natural charms.  Few people ever have the opportunity to transform this Indian Ocean dream to work in such sites, into a reality.

SIF offers a limited number of volunteer opportunities at both sites.  We receive an overwhelming number of requests and applications for such positions, and vacancies are therefore restricted to applicants with the skills, qualifications and experience necessary for the work.  The types of position available also change regularly according to project needs but usually a scientific or technical background is considered essential.  We also expect applicants to be mature, dedicated, prepared to work hard and have some experience of the outdoors and especially living and working in remote places.  Applicants must be willing to commit to at least 4 months of full-time work and preferably longer.  Please note that volunteers are expected to cover all of the costs of their stay except accommodation, which SIF provides.

For the next few months of 2013 SIF will be seeking applicants with suitable experience and serious interest in invasive species management, marine monitoring and/or avian monitoring.  If any of these fields apply to you and you're keen to spend several months doing important, interesting work in unique sites of international importance and beauty we would welcome your application.  Volunteering for SIF at either site is an outstanding experience!

For your application we require a CV and cover letter explaining your experience and interests in the relevant site/project and why you should be considered as a volunteer.  If you would like to apply or for more information on these volunteer opportunities, you are welcome to email us at: info@sif.sc or write to:
