SIF is seeking to recruit an Assomption Eradication Project Manager to manage the feasibility technical assessment and subsequent eradication planning for the removal of invasive rats, cats, and mice from Assomption Island.

The project manager will play a central role in driving the project forward and supporting project logistics, and will act as the SIF Head Office point of contact for all aspects of the feasibility technical assessment phase (in 2026) and subsequent eradication (planned 2027). Responsibilities include overseeing and managing project budgets and equipment sourcing and requisition, funder reporting and being the face of the project at meetings.

The successful candidate will have a strong project management background with the ability to coordinate multiple elements of a complex and demanding project, excellent experience with invasive alien species control and eradication, and biosecurity, and be able to communicate well with different groups.

The project manager will lead logistics for the project, review and contribute to project field and consultancy reports, support staff management and recruitment, support scientific writing, and ensure that project activities and deliverables are completed within agreed timelines. The role will involve close collaboration with the SIF Head of Projects, Senior Projects Coordinator, Eradication Feasibility Consultant, Assomption Field Team Manager, Assomption Technical Consultant and Director of Research and Conservation to ensure that the objectives of this phase of the Assomption eradication project are successfully achieved.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree, and preferably a post-graduate degree, in environmental science, conservation, or a closely related field (essential)
  • 4+ years of experience in senior project or conservation management, including budget management, logistical support, staff management, report writing and acting as a focal point (essential)
  • 4+ years of experience in invasive alien species (IAS) control and research, including rodent and/or cat eradication feasibility/operation, ideally on tropical islands (essential)
  • Demonstrated experience managing rodent eradication feasibility assessments (essential)
  • 2+ years of experience working in conservation management in Seychelles (preferable)
  • Successful track record of management of invasive mammals (control or eradication) on islands (essential)
  • Experience of representing and presenting projects to varied stakeholders, including international experts, researchers, and financial donors (preferable)
  • International exposure/NGO work experience is considered an asset for this position (preferred)

 

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Demonstrable knowledge of international eradication best practice, particularly for invasive rodents and cats
  • Outstanding organizational, planning and communication skills
  • Proven excellence in project management and team coordination
  • Strong understanding of local logistical requirements, e.g. equipment sourcing and transport, and biosecurity measures
  • Strong technical writing skills in English, including report preparation and review
  • Excellent understanding of budget and data management skills
  • Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex or sensitive information to diverse audiences
  • Strong multitasking, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities
  • Experience organising professional events such as workshops, symposia, and stakeholder meetings
