The Assomption Eradication Feasibility Assessment Project Officers will implement the feasibility trials that will inform planning for the proposed eradication of invasive rats, cats, and mice from Assomption Island.
The Project Officers will assist the Assomption Field Team Leader in conducting a wide range of field activities associated with eradication feasibility trials. These activities include trapping, marking, measuring, culling, and conducting dissections of target species (rats, mice and cats), baiting trials to assess bait uptake, availability and palatability, camera trap deployment, checking and maintenance, and establishing and monitoring transects for ecological monitoring. In addition to substantial fieldwork, the position includes office-based tasks such as data entry, checking and summarising, and image uploading, management and analysis. Project Officers will also contribute to internal technical reports and ensure that all data collected in the field are accurately recorded and submitted in accordance with project protocols.
Successful candidates will be required to strictly adhere to project protocols, carry out meticulous data recording and data cleaning, and promptly report field observations, challenges, or operational issues to the Field Team Leader. Project Officers will also contribute to communication and outreach activities, including generating media content such as photographs, short videos, and social media updates documenting the project’s activities and progress.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, or a related field (essential)
- At least 2 years of remote (ideally island-based) ecological fieldwork experience involving invasive alien mammal control and research (essential)
- Experience of independent fieldwork operating camera traps, trapping, small mammal dissection etc (preferable).
- Experience working in Seychelles (ideally) or the wider Indian Ocean region (desirable)

- Ability to work effectively as part of a small, , international, remote field team (essential)
- First aid qualification (essential)
- Excellent physical fitness suitable for demanding tropical field conditions (essential)
