POST TITLE: DRIVER &LOGISTIC ASSISTANT

RESPONSIBLE DIRECTLY TO: SITE MANAGER

HOURS OF WORK: 45 HOURS PER WEEK AND OVERTIME AS AND WHEN REQUIRED

Context and Background

The Driver & Logistic Assistant will be responsible directly to the Site Manager for all aspects of logistics and transport duties on both SIF sites on Praslin, that is Vallee de Mai and Fond Ferdinand sites.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for collection and dispatch of all incoming and outgoing cargo
  • Assist with daily transportation of staff for banking duties
  • Assist with transportation of staff for Research related activities
  • Assist with transportation of staff for education and outreach activities      
  • Responsible for collection and transportation of Security Officers to and from duty and be on call at all times.
  • Ensure regular checks of SIF vehicles and report any defect or problem encounter to the Site Manager with immediate effect.
  • Assist with anti-poaching activities 
  • Assist with the prevention of fires and fire fighting
  • Transport staff on official duty trips to Praslin as and when required.
  • Collect and dispatch mails and purchases as and when required
  • Abide to all traffic regulations at all times (seat belt penalty fines to be paid by the Driver)
  • Submit logbook of daily mileage and, fuel consumption to immediate supervisor for verification.  
  • Ensure the vehicles are serviced and maintained as and when required and the submission of garage logbook to immediate supervisor for endorsement.
  • Ensure vehicles are kept clean at all times and that oil and water are checked daily before use
  • Ensure that vehicles are road worthy and that the licenses and insurances are in order at all times. Inform the immediate supervisor of the due date for renewal well in advance 
  • Carry out any other work-related duties as may be assigned by the Site Manager
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

Skills:

•     Strong public relations and communication skills necessary.

•     Computer literate and ability to work with Microsoft word, excel, power point, outlook etc.

•      Strong communication skills, both verbal and written is necessary for completing forms

•     Ability to make independent judgements and decisions while working in the field.

•     Ability to handle difficult situations in a courteous and professional manner.

•     Ability to work after normal working hours and attend to emergency calls.

•     Ability to work independently and as a team member.

 

Personal attributes:

The Driver & Logistic Assistant position requires an individual who is very reliable and enjoys the challenge as well as diligently committed to working flexible hours.

 

Professional Experience:

Minimum 2 years of experience in the relevant field.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Certificate level in mechanical and maintenance field.

 

Languages:

Fluency in English, and Creole,

 

Valid Driver’s License (2,4,5 & 6) and good driving record are preferred.
