JOB TITLE: Marine Mechanic
RESPONSIBLE TO: Island Manager
HOURS OF WORK: 40 Hours per week
Job Profile
The Marine Mechanic reports to the Senior Marine Mechanic/Island Manager for assisting with the maintenance of the Research Station and settlement equipment ensuring they are in good and safe working condition. This includes outboard engines, generators, compressor, desalination plant, pumps, air-condition units, radio communication systems, all other electrical/electronic equipment and water supply distribution system.
Qualifications/Experiences
Advanced Diploma in Marine Mechanic OR Electrical Engineering with Class one with four years working experience in relevant field
OR
Diploma in Marine Mechanic with City and Guilds or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years working experience in relevant field
Remuneration
The salary of the position will be in accordance with the scheme of service for the position
Language
Fluent in written and spoken English
Other languages will an advantage
Skills and attributes
• Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised and with flexible hours.
• A friendly, open and confident manner with the ability to deal assertively, but tactfully, with potentially awkward visitors and willing to talk to all visitors.
• Excellent team player able to enjoy life in an isolated international community without frequent transport opportunities. An adaptable and innovative approach to problem solving, with the ability to identify issues which may be significant in terms of policy/strategy and the skill of communicating such issues to the line manager and resolving them.
• Able to maintain a work life balance
• Fully computer literate (MS word, excel, outlook, power point)
• In-depth field experience in nature conservation in Seychelles
• Boat driving skills with at least 10NM and a qualified First Aider/Responder
• Padi Advanced diver
• Understanding of technical issues in maintenance of buildings and equipment (solar energy, water, generators, boat engines, desalination plants, pumps, boat maintenance) and electrical highly desired.
• An organized, pragmatic, problem solving mind.
• Strong communication, public relation, leadership skills required and keen interest in sustainable management.
• Enthusiasm, energy, flexibility and initiative. Sense of humour and commitment to SIF’s mission.
