LOCATION: Head Office (requires to work on all SIF sites)

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week

 

 

CONTEXT & BACKGROUND

 

The Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF) Communications Officer (CO) will be responsible for developing and improving national and international communication channels for the two UNESCO World Heritage sites managed by the Seychelles Islands Foundation: The Vallée de Mai and Aldabra Atoll as well Fond Ferdinand on Praslin. The main aim of the position is to raise awareness at all levels of SIF’s work and the values of the two sites amongst Seychellois and the international arena. The Communications Officer will be based in the SIF Head Office on Mahé.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Filming Agreement and Liaison:
    • Collaborate with the CEO, HoCO, and CFO to draft and finalize photography and filming agreements for SIF-managed sites, including any related financial documentation.
    • Serve as the main point of contact for international and local filmmakers interested in SIF projects, sites, teams, and initiatives, ensuring accurate and favourable representation of SIF’s work.
    • Upkeep the Filming and Media-Sharing database and follow-ups as appropriate.

 

  • Content Creation & Design
    • Develop engaging graphics, photos, and videos that represent SIF, its sites and initiatives, ensuring high-quality content that resonates with targeted audiences.
    • Conceptualize and produce multimedia content for diverse platforms, including the website, social media, and promotional materials.
    • Capture and edit high-quality photos and videos at field sites, events, and campaigns, maintaining visual alignment with SIF Communications Strategy and Branding
    • Develop engaging content for social media campaigns, highlight videos, and other visual materials to support PR, awareness initiatives, fundraising, and to showcase SIF’s activities and achievements

 

  • Branding:
    • Collaborate with the team to ensure visual consistency and alignment with SIF’s branding across all media and platforms (presentations, reports, documentation, graphics)
    • Work closely with relevant staff to create publicity materials for SIF sites and initiatives.
    • Act as the primary contact for outsourced graphic design and videography, ensuring quality and brand consistency.
    • Support in creating educational resources for local and international audiences.

 

  • Multimedia Management:
    • Manage the full lifecycle of media content, from story research and field camera work to logging, archiving, and editing.
    • To accurately log and archive video footage and photographs in the SIF server.

 

  • Social Media:
    • Create content to enhance PR efforts and support social media initiatives.
    • Conduct research on social media trends, audience engagement strategies, and platform best practices to inform and optimize SIF’s social media presence. Analyze data to identify content themes, audience interests, and optimal posting schedules, providing regular insights to guide social media planning and content creation.
    • Assist in compiling and producing mini CEA quarterly reports at the end of each quarter.

Regular Communication Tasks

  • Assist in the compilation of monthly internal newsletter articles, articles to be collected through communication with staff and HR at all sites for editing by HoCO. Contribute to and edit the external newsletter and manage the subscriber list, updating as necessary.
  • Assist the HoCO, CEO, Science, HR, Projects, Operations and Logistics teams in promoting SIF’s research, results, and overall activities.
  • Help coordinate campaigns to enhance public awareness of Aldabra, Vallée de Mai, and Fond Ferdinand, aiming to build support for conservation efforts, such as invasive species management and restoration projects.

Less Frequent Communications Tasks:

  • Contribute to developing the annual Communications, Education, and Outreach work plan. 
  • Assist in producing the annual Communication Effectiveness Assessment, completed by the end of Q1 of the following year.
  • Plan and participate in SIF events, supporting campaign engagement and outreach.
  • Assist in compiling photos, ensuring proper credits are included, and reviewing content for the SIF annual reports. Support the editing process to ensure the final report is visually cohesive and accurately represents SIF's activities and achievements.

 

Marketing Tasks:

  • Work with Tourism and Commerce and the HoCO on photography and videography agreements, product creation and promotion, and partnership initiatives with stakeholders. Ensure all SIF materials adhere to organizational style and branding, and that logos are used correctly.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintain an up-to-date stakeholder register, documenting contacts for SIF’s network of staff, supporters, associates, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update a press database with detailed records of articles and press releases. 
  • Organize and manage a master archive of graphics, including final designs and raw files, ensuring that all visual assets are easily accessible, categorized, and securely stored for future use.

Any other duties:

 As assigned by the CEO and discussed with HoCO

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor (and preferably a post-graduate qualification) in a subject related to the post. 
  • Qualifications in software programmes such as web design, graphic design*, media and communications would be assets

 

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in communication/public relations in the public and/or private industry is required
  • Proven interest and preferably work experience in environmental issues/conservation
  • Some international experience is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience or willingness to acquire knowledge in website maintenance/management and graphic design

Languages

• Fluency in English and Creole are essential and knowledge of French and additional languages are an asset.
