JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:                                        Field Research Officer 

SALARY BAND:                                SG9  

RESPONSIBLE TO:                          Assistant Aldabra Science Coordinator / Aldabra Science Coordinator / Island Manager 

HOURS OF WORK:                          40 hours per week and upon request of overtime  

 

Job Profile:

Implementing all monitoring and participation in data collection programmes and management as requested by the Senior Ranger, Aldabra Scientific Coordinator (ASC), Island Manager (IM) or other person designated. Showing abilities to work independently and motivate others to ensure the highest standards are met.

Organising and carrying out all monitoring and data collection, entry and checking to the best possible standard according to the existing protocols and ASC’s instructions, with high accuracy, precision and coverage and good attention to detail. Organising and assisting in planning camp visits and organising food supplies, including providing a camp food list to the ASC on return to the Station, as well as attend camp visits for several days and ensuring that the scheduled work and all monitoring duties are completed to a high standard.

Organising to provide the ASC with accurate, objective and prompt reports of monitoring activities, including problems and necessary clarifications when required. Contributing to data analysis and report writing as directed by the ASC or AASC

 

Qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum BSc or equivalent in an environmental subject or Minimum BSc in Marine Biology.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in the environmental field, with at least one year coordinating and managing scientific projects including supervising staff and volunteers, data collection and management and communicating research at a high level
  • Preferably experience working on the Aldabra research and monitoring programme.

  • Fully computer literate – in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint
  • Data management skills – ability to manage large datasets and extract relevant information
  • Integrity – Honesty, a positive attitude and a sound work ethic are essential for this position.
  • Attention to detail – ability to pay close attention to detail and be meticulous with data and follow-ups
  • Flexible working hours- undertake work outside normal working hours

Remuneration

The salary of the position will be at SG9 with other incentives in accordance with the scheme of service for the position

Fluent in written and spoken English
