JOB TITLE: Tourism Officer
SALARY BAND: SG 9
RESPONSIBLE TO: Tourism Coordinator/ Island Manager/ASC/ HoCT
LOCATION: Aldabra
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week (expected to work overtime)

Context & background
The Tourism Officer (TO) will be based on Aldabra Atoll and will be responsible for the logistical coordination of visiting vessels, communication with expedition leaders and the SIF Head Office, designing activity programmes for visitors, ensuring biosecurity measures are implemented. The TO has to lead visitor tours, train staff and ensure that all visitors adhere to Aldabra’s rules and regulations. The TO is required to submit written reports on each visit with recommendations.

Qualifications and professional experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an Environment, business, management r tourism field, with a focus on nature conservation, environmental education, and tourism.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience of working in an environmental/management/tourism field including conservation, tourist management and protected area management
- Leadership and management experience (essential)
- Experience working long hours under demanding conditions (such as bad weather)
Certifications
- Dive Master certification and 100+ dives, including leading dives (not required but preferred)
- Rescue Diver certification and 50+ dives, including leading dives
- Up-to-date first aid certification by an approved body (preferred)
Some of the skills required
- Strong knowledge and understanding of biosecurity and experience of implementing biosecurity measures
- Proficiency in report writing
- Experience with designing and delivering presentations to diverse audiences
- Strong swimming and snorkelling skills (essential)
- Proven professional communication skills with local/international partners
- Experience working on Aldabra (desired)
- High level of professionalism and adherence to strict regulations even when questioned
- Physically fit with ability to board/disembark visiting tourism vessels more three times in a day.
