JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:                                         Operation Manager

SALARY GRADE:                              SG10

RESPONSIBLE TO:                           Site Manager/Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

HOURS OF WORK:                          40 hours per week and on standby outside normal working hours

 

Context and Background

The Operation Manager (OM) has, under the direct supervision of the Site Manager, the responsibility to oversee the effective day to day management of the RFF operations; support the Site Manager to attain the site’s objectives; development and implement work plans; delegate responsibilities to staff and establish priorities consistent with the management objectives.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the daily operations of the RFF and ensuring that all sections and units of the RFF functions effectively and efficiently
  • Manages and maintains all infrastructures within and outside the boundaries of the RFF that are under the SIF authority
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of paths, trails, and firebreaks in accordance with the regulations of the protected area.
  • Handles grievances and employee relations that may arise in accordance with the Employment Act and SIF policies and regulations and in consultation with the SIF Head Office
  • Ensures that the services provided to the visitors are on required standard and that visitors comply with the existing policies and regulations when visiting the park
  • Ensures a good working partnership with other organization/institutions to coordinate environment education and outreach programs in the local community.
  • Ensures that requisitions purchased are done adequately and in an efficient manner to avoid out of stock or wastage and proper record of stock are well maintained and filed
  • Ensures that all revenues are collected and well recorded and that banking are done on accordingly.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of vehicles under the RFF responsibility and that the insurances and licenses are in order.
  • Facilitate access for all Researchers conducting research works in the RFF to ensure the objectives of their respective project are met.
  • Coordinate activities related to Coco de Mer collection and alien Invasive species.
  • Prepares work programs and submit monthly reports.
  • Co-ordinate VIP visits upon requests or to any related groups visiting RFF.
  • Organize monthly meetings with staffs of the RFF
  • Co-ordinate RFF anti-poaching patrols in house as well as with external partners
  • Assist the Police in processing poaching cases.
  • Assists and liaises with other affiliates in the prevention of fires and fire fighting
  • Ensures that incoming and outgoing cargoes are dealt with
  • Respond to Security firm calls whilst on duty
  • Ensures that patrol of designated areas are done regularly to ensure that the park laws are not violated and that Park regulations are fully respected
  • Implements the EMS policy by advocating energy efficiency and promoting the practice of the 3 “R”’s (Reduced, Reused, Recycle)
  • Ensures that the maintenance of tools, furniture, fixtures and fittings are done regularly Be on standby duty after normal working hours
  • Carry out any other work related duties as may be assigned by Site Manager

 

JOB SPECIFICATION

Education:

Qualifications:

University degree in the field of environmental science or at least a Diploma level in the management field and supervisory skills

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years working experience in a senior management position; knowledge and background in protected area management

Special skills

•     People management and strong leadership skills

  • Able to delegate at all levels/decision making
  • Computer literate and ability to work with word, excel and emails

•     Strong knowledge of health and safety issues

  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills

•     Ability to make independent judgments and decisions.

•     Ability to work after hours when required and emergency calls.

•     Ability to handle difficult situations in a courteous and professional manner.

•     Ability to work independently and as a team player.

 

Personal attributes:

  • The position requires an individual who enjoys the challenge of coordinating a team willing to work in the field of conservation and Tourism.

 

Languages:

Fluency in English, and Creole other language is an advantage.

Valid Driver’s License preferably Class 2 & 4, as well as good driving record.
